Canon MV940 Camcorder

The Canon MV940 Digital Video Camera combines a 25 x optical zoom with a 32 x digital zoom. This camcorder features a selectable zoom speed to prevent jerky zooming, and records still shots to Secure Digital Card. The Canon MV940 is stylish and compact, and easy to use.

The MV960, Canon’s MV940 performed well under optimum lighting, while low-light performance yielded significant noise. It boasts a very full feature set for an entry-level model, including a bevy of shooting options, fixed- or variable-speed zoom, and a wide-screen LCD. Initially MV940 is very impressing; it has a wide range of features, good quality video and is excellent value for money. It’s still a very good camcorder, but it could, and should, have been better still. The MV940 should fulfill most casual moviemakers’ needs. Canon’s budget-pleasing MV940 MiniDV camcorder falls squarely between the MV920 and MV960. The Canon MV940 shares the MV960’s 680,000-pixel, 1/6-inch CCD; 2.7-inch wide-screen LCD; simple, joystick-driven menus; and palm-friendly design. The MV940 is another budget Mini DV camera. Its main advantage is price, Mini DV costing considerably less than DVD and hard disk video camcorders. The MV940 is a perfect example of what a budget camcorder should be like; it may be light on the pocket but it’s heavy in functionality.

Features and Performance

The new zoom control is good that Canon put into these camcorders. It lets you choose between fixed — 1x, 2x, or 3x or variable zoom speeds. The variable works the same as most camcorders: the harder you press, the faster it zooms. The fixed settings keep the zoom consistent to ward off that herky-jerky amateur look.

Canon has managed to pack a surprising amount of camera in to such a small frame. The MV940 is one of the smallest Mini DV camcorders boasts a 2.7 inch widescreen display, 25x optical zoom, SD card reader and more besides. The Canon MV940 includes a lot of shooting options, including eight auto-exposure modes, three white-balance choices, nine digital image effects, six shutter speeds, and a level marker that overlays a horizon line on the LCD to help getting orient shot. Of course, Canon’s Easy mode will make all the choices, if you want to keep it simple. Thankfully the quality of the MV940’s video is much better. The image is smooth, the color good and the picture clear. The MV940’s native recording mode is 16:9 widescreen, hence the inclusion of a widescreen LCD, which is a nice touch for a budget camera. Sometimes the option for black and white or sepia effect is included. It’s now possible to have your video displayed on a rotating 3D cube or to ripple in a wave effect.

As you’d expect, the Canon MV940 doesn’t impress with its still photography. Images are grainy and low-resolution, though colours seem relatively accurate. Video fares better. In medium and bright lighting, the MV940 captures crisp video with accurate color. In low light, the video exhibits noticeable noise, and Canon’s Night mode doesn’t help. The lack of a useful computer kit is annoying, but not unusual for a camera in this price range.

Laptop Buying Tips – How to Choose the Best Laptop For You and Even Get One Free

In recent years laptops been growing in power so it is now easy to find a cheap laptop that will perform most tasks that you would once have performed on a desktop PC. However, it is still the case that spending the same amount of money on a desktop PC or Mac will get you more in terms of specification and power. This is important if you are doing something like video editing or playing the latest games. The ultimate advantage of a laptop is that it gives you the freedom to use your computer on the move or around the home rather than being restricted to one room. You can take better advantage of wireless networking and surf the net without being connected to a phone socket or wired network.

When considering which laptop to buy think about what you plan to use it for. You might need your computer to be easily portable, and therefore more compact, or you might be looking to replace your desktop PC and need something that can be folded up and put away to save space when it’s not in use. You need to carefully consider which type of laptop would suit you best, weighing up things like portability against power and price. Size and weight vary considerably, with a small, portable netbook averaging around 1kg, and larger widescreen laptops weighing in at around 3kg.

Canon Dvd Camcorder

Entry-level laptops are a cheap, basic option and best for those who use their laptop for straightforward office tasks and internet use.

Desktop replacement laptops are much more powerful computers that are comparable to desktop systems in terms of power. This type of computer is suitable for editing photos or videos and playing games, as well as performing office tasks. Desktop replacements are a lot heavier and less portable than other laptops.

Netbooks are ultra-portable laptops and are different from standard laptops in that they make reducing size and weight the priority, at the cost of power, speed and features e.g. no CD drive. They are small and compact with limited features, but they are perfectly adequate for general tasks and surfing the web. They generally use processors that are less powerful than the chips used in larger laptops, but are cheaper and more energy efficient. Some come with the Windows XP operating system installed, and several models use the free Linux operating system. Some brands offer a choice of Linux or Windows, although the Windows option will be more expensive. You will not find built-in CD and DVD drives in these netbooks. If you really need these you will have to buy them separately. You will get wireless connectivity which you can use to connect them to a wireless network. Some netbooks use standard hard drives, while others use solid-state storage.

Free Laptops

There are many deals offering cheap or free laptops but there is a catch. The mobile phone companies such as O2, Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile and 3 which offer free laptops or netbooks insist you sign up to a mobile broadband contract, often for 18 or 24 months as part of the deal. However this is useful if you do not want to put your money upfront to buy a laptop. Do not necessarily choose the cheapest deal. Check that the laptop or netbook suits your needs, and make sure you can receive the mobile broadband signal where you live.

Also look out for special student deals. As laptops are so popular with college and university students needing a versatile computer for study at home and in the library, companies sometimes advertise discounts for students

How to Pick the Right Camcorder on a Budget

As I sat at my computer, I anxiously awaited for the ebay auction to end so I could snap up a fabulous deal for a brand new Samsung Mini DV camcorder. Seconds left and I placed my bid and sure enough I was the winner. A brand new camcorder for only 0 US! I couldn’t be happier, well that was until my wonderful little bargain arrived. You see my last camcorder was a hi-fi Hitachi camera, which was great for all intents and purposes. But as it slowly began to fall apart, it became apparent that it was time to upgrade to a digital based camcorder. I just assumed a new Mini DV camera would naturally be better than my old tape based format. Needless to say I was very wrong. The camera produced really poor, grainy images, particularly in low light. The still images were good for nothing and most of our footage was a series of burrs. Thanks to this amazing “deal” I have no good footage of the birth of my son, and many special memories, like school concerts and holidays are barely visible through the dark pictures. Well, lesson learned. Apparently it is vital that a person researches camcorders thoroughly before making a purchase.

So recently I decided I was going to put in the effort and do some investigation on cameras available in my price range (which is definitely on the low end) for no more than 0. This time I was going into it with a bit more knowledge in terms of what I need. Because I do alot of shooting indoors, I needed a camera that was good in low light. This proved to be a challenge, because when I searched out individual camcorders on the Internet in my price range it appeared that problems with low light was a very common problem. Moreover, no matter what camera I would seem to select, there was always a negative review to go along with it. It was a long process of narrowing down through reading both professional and user reviews. One of my favorite search sources was the CNET website which outlined very clearly the strengths and weaknesses of many camcorders and provided full specifications on each. I came back to this site frequently to compare and read reviews on possible camcorders. After days of reading reviews, researching and checking prices, I knew that there was three brands to choose from. These were Panasonic, Sony and Canon. All of these brands seemed to come up consistently as the top runners for image quality and were considered to be the best value for the money.

Canon Dvd Camcorder

I also learned through my research that although DVD format and hard drive format are the way camcorders are heading, the price range for a good camcorder in these categories did not fit my budget. Sure I could get a DVD camcorder within my price range, but was it going to perform as well as a lower priced Mini DV? The answer I came up with is no. I will get better picture quality (which is very important to me) from a lower priced Mini DV than from a higher priced DVD camcorder. This has to do with what happens when images are compressed in the DVD format. Although I really liked the idea of popping the DVD right out of my camera right into the player, I constantly was coming up with people complaining that the disks only held a minimal amount of footage when set to high quality! This was seen to be both a costly and inconvenient downfall to the convenient DVD format.

Another common complaint with a variety of camcorders is that some did not connect to the computer, therefore eliminating the ability to edit home movies. Although I have never really explored this option before, I did think that this was an important option to have. So I eventually eliminated the cameras without a USB port. As for the technical stuff I did examine the specifications including the gross and effective sensor resolution, the amount of optical and digital zoom and of course the lux rating. The lux rating was of particular interest because it is this rating that determines how well a camera will perform in low light. The lower the lux rating the better. However, all these features don’t amount to a hill of beans if those who have used the camera still deem it to be an inferior product. In the end it was the user and professional reviews that swayed me to decide on the Canon Elura 100. It didn’t have the most optical zoom, and it was a bit more pricey than a couple other cameras that had a few more features, but those who used it loved it. That is not to say that it was all good reviews. One common complaint was a motor noise that many people said occurred with this particular model. However, if I learned anything from this process is that there will always be something that someone doesn’t like about a particular camera or really anything else for that matter. You just can’t please everyone all of the time, but as for me, I am finally pleased with my purchase, that I once again bought off ebay, but this time a little bit wiser.

Camcorders Vs Digital Cameras

If you own a digital camera, you may be wondering why you should even bother buying a new camcorder. After all, all digital cameras nowadays come along with a video recording option. So, why pay to own a camcorder when you already have a camera that does the same thing? Because it doesn’t do the same thing! Throughout this article we will speak about the many reasons that it is important to own a camcorder even if you already own a camera.

One of the major differences between camcorders and digital cameras is their video quality. Most newer camcorders record video in 1080p high quality video. Most cameras, on the other hand, are unlikely to match this quality. While there are a few superior digital cameras out there, most will record no higher than 720p.

Canon Dvd Camcorder

Camcorders and digital cameras also differ in their lens qualities. While there are a number of cameras out there that do offer zoom, most will not be able to zoom at the same magnification as a camcorder.

Another major difference between camcorders and cameras is that camcorders offer much more memory than cameras. Most only allow you to record between 15 and 20 minutes of video. Camcorders, depending on which type of camcorder you own, can record and store anywhere from one hour to seven hours of video at a time. Camcorders also allow you to record your videos straight to DVD or Blu-ray, while cameras require you to transfer your videos to computer and burn them to DVD yourself.

Camcorders also offer better internal microphones than digital cameras. This allows you to pick up sound much easier on your camcorder than you can on your camera. Camcorders also offer many more audio recording options than cameras. They can, for example, be set to automatically zoom into the source of a sound. Digital camera video recordings are far from being this sophisticated.

Finally, while digital cameras do offer a variety of video controls and special effects, they do not even come close to offering the same amount of controls and effects as camcorders. With cameras, you simply point and shoot. Camcorders, on the other hand, offer a variety of options to adjust the field of view, shutter speed, and white balance. Also, while some cameras may offer one or two special effects, camcorders offer several.

While digital cameras are great for taking pictures, they are not great for recording. If you are relying on your camera to record your videos for you, you are missing out! Purchasing a camcorder will allow you to record higher quality videos, while at the same time provide you with better recording lenses, internal microphones, video controls, and special effects. As said previously, digital cameras are great for taking pictures. But, if you want to record videos, leave your camera at home and replace it with a camcorder! Purchase your new camcorder today to capture and store hours of your most precious memories!
